Republicans are expressing fear at doing the right thing in the wake of the barbaric insurrection at our nation’s capitol. The right thing is to call out Donald’s election lies, tell the truth, and hold him accountable for the violent MAGA armed insurrection. Black people have historically faced enormous fear, without privilege, protection, or the resources white Republicans enjoy, yet Black people did the right thing in the face of monumental fear. The fearful hesitancy in the Republican Party, to do the right thing is ironically shameful – they fear what they willingly created. Donald and his MAGA mob was allowed to stoke violence and racism for years under a Republican Party tent of protection.
Republicans need to think about what Rosa Parks endured, do they think she faced fear? Think about the Little Rock Nine, as they walked through a violent white mob to attend school. Think about John Lewis as he crossed the Edmund Pettus Bridge. Think about Andrew Goodman, Michael Schwerner, and James Chaney as they drove to register people to vote. Think about Martin Luther King Jr. as he taught non-violence while struggling for civil rights. Think about Alicia Garza, Opal Tometi, and Patrisse Cullors peacefully working for racial justice so that Black Lives Matter. Think about what every Black person faces everyday. Think about MAGA mob threats toward civil rights leaders, Democratic lawmakers, journalists, and everyday people simply doing their jobs, trying to live their lives. Think about what they, and their families have faced for some time now, yet they do what is right even in the face of fear. Think about the police at the capitol who faced fear, fighting off a violent mob intent on overthrowing democracy, only to have 147 Republicans abet the coup inside the very building an officer died protecting. Think about every American who risk their lives to vote. Think.
There is no neutrality in this moment.
Do what is right. Convict Donald J. Trump in the US Senate immediately. Remove every official who supported, helped, or participated in the insurrection. Find and charge every single person who participated in this seditious act. Remove any elected official who does not accept and acknowledge the lawful election of Joe Biden as President of the United States of America.
“I have learned over the years that when one’s mind is made up, this diminishes fear; knowing what must be done does away with fear.” Rosa Parks
