Where’s the Humanity?

Not surprising meatpacking industry CEO’s, choose profit over people, forcing employees to work in unsafe conditions during a pandemic, considering how the same industry has treated employees during “normal” times. If CEO’s of the meatpacking industry believe factories are safe to work in, then why don’t they work a few shifts on the assembly line? Don’t be shocked when the meatpacking industry seeks Trump’s presidential approval, to inject employees with chemicals, to keep “workers” under their control, just as they do with the animals they inject with chemicals, in the name of operational success. Employees at meatpacking facilities are packed into working quarters, shoulder to shoulder, handling meat products, shipped around the nation for mass consumption. Chicken fingers are in high demand, even if they contain actual pieces of human fingers. There is no federal enforcement requiring the meatpacking industry to follow CDC recommendations to ensure employees are safe. I’m old enough to remember a popular commercial, with two old white women, asking the quintessential question, “Where’s the beef?” The essential question now must be, “Where’s the humanity?”

“When we eat factory-farmed meat we live, literally, on tortured flesh. Increasingly, that tortured flesh is becoming our own.” Jonathan Safran Foer
