November 13 – 19 is Transgender Awareness Week, a weeklong dedication to increase awareness, educate, and advocate for transgender people. Violence against transgender people is on the rise, with fatal crime aimed at transgender women of color, specifically Black women, occurring at alarming rates. We must create, support, and encourage, a safe society for transgender people, no excuses – equal protection for all. Silence is fatal. Transgender people are murdered, and subjected to violent attacks, with crimes committed, against transgender people frequently ignored, or not reported, from an already marginalized community. Please, be an ally, not an asshole. Apathy is a leading cause of death.
