Being a journalist is seriously tough, fearlessly pursuing truth, uncovering obscure well disguised facts, risking death in the process, while bravely protecting sources, is not a calling for cowards. Journalists are targeted, subjected to ridicule, and contempt, for doing their job. Reportedly, Trump allies seek to besmirch journalists and the families of journalists, who report facts about the current President that are not flattering. Watch out, the King’s devout royal court is pushing their own “Burn Book” into the public sphere, in order to smear. The King enjoys chaos, deflecting and obscuring facts, to drive democracy out, for a more pliant public. A free press is essential, especially right now. How else will the public be aware of which celebrities are kicking it, or putting a ring on it? How will the public know about the clandestine army Putin is amassing in Africa, without a free press? Journalists are vital, from the Red Carpet to the Red Sea, ensuring checks and balances are kept on those with power, whether that power is celebrity or municipality, a free press is a necessity. We need valorous journalism, from E! News to NBC, the foundational elements of, “who, what, when, where, and why,” are of vital importance. Even Superman fell in love with a journalist.
“Journalists are accused of being lapdogs when they don’t ask the hard questions, but then accused of being rude when they do. Good thing we have tough hides.” Gwen Ifill
