“Lincoln was right about not fooling all the people all the time. But Republicans haven’t given up trying.” LBJ

Lyndon Baines Johnson was the 36th President sworn in after President John F. Kennedy was assassinated in 1963. LBJ was born in Stonewall, Texas in 1908, he didn’t grow up with ostentatious wealth, nor did he attend exclusive prep schools. He was the eldest of five children, and grew up as most white people do in Texas, using the word “nigger,” it is reported he used the word freely and frequently. Racism permeates just about every fiber of society, and it sure seems to have permeated some of LBJ’s “fiber” as well.

The lie of white supremacy has deep roots, it is the belief that white people are superior to Black people, and pretty much everyone else. This lie of white superiority was successfully cemented into the foundation of American society, from shit kicker to scholar, the bee’s knees of bigotry, is white supremacy. And to this day, there are white people, and even some Black people, who believe the lie of white supremacy. The inflated value in the color of the Caucasian cloak is provided to white folks at birth, a self-ascribed elite epidermis they sometimes condemn, yet cash in on at the same time.

Like many white men, what LBJ lacked in wealth was made up for in his whiteness, just being white made him a recipient of privilege. LBJ signed the Voting Rights Act of 1965, and bragged, “I’ll have those niggers voting Democratic for the next 200 years.” Talk about working with people from across the isle, our ancestors had to deal with white supremacy of extreme depths, through pain and sacrifice. LBJ, who signed the Voting Rights Act, was the same guy who purposely pushed Fannie Lou Hamer off the air so that her message would not be heard by the masses. Don’t be fooled by Republicans, or by so-called “moderate Democrats,” this is the time to do what is necessary, not what is neutral. Democracy is on the line, elected officials will either protect voting rights for all Americans, or remain mute, manipulative, and muddle righteous water with faux cries of bi-partisanship as they buttress bigotry.

Like the filibuster, and the electoral college, Republicans are proving that they too are relics. Don’t forget, Republicans staged, started, and supported a violent insurrection to take power. Eliminating our right to vote is just the tip of the Anglo iceberg for a Party whose platform is Donald, not democracy. LBJ said, “It’s better to have him inside the tent pissing out, than outside the tent pissing in,” he was not talking about Donald of course, yet Donald has filled the Republican tent with piss, ubiquitous urine pervasive throughout the GOP.

“I’ll tell you what’s at the bottom of it. If you can convince the lowest white man he’s better than the best colored man, he won’t notice you’re picking his pocket. Hell, give him somebody to look down on, and he’ll empty his pockets for you.” Lyndon B. Johnson
