Teenagers are mobilizing and utilizing their voices to implement action on gun issues and climate change. Kids are not complaining, they are intelligently gathering resources and pushing facts to influence the population that is able to vote. Essentially, kids are depending on adults to listen and act by voting. But, are adults listening or are they being dismissive to the legitimate and time sensitive issues kids will directly face as a result of inaction?
The issue of climate change is far too important for procrastination, and teenagers are aware of this fact. Adults can no longer placate kids with excuses and false comfort. It’s time to allow the demographic of people whose future is directly impacted and in peril, with the fundamental resource required to enact change – the right to vote.
Make the “Sweet 16” birthday truly matter, provide 16 year olds the right to vote. Allow a 16th birthday to include the opportunity to drive and register to vote. If you truly care about kids, don’t deny them the opportunity to reclaim their future. Grant 16 year olds the right to be the drivers of their future. The so-called adults in the room had their chance, yet politicians continue to quibble on vital issues requiring immediate action. Empower teenagers with the ability to protect their future.
“Voting is how we participate in a civic society – be it for president, be it for a municipal election. It’s the way we teach our children – in school elections – how to be citizens, and the importance of their voice.” Loretta Lynch
