We gathered around our radios today to listen to the Supreme Court hear the Colorado case on Donald’s ballot eligibility. Despite a technical advancement called, television, the case was not televised. Instead, it was all about the audio.
Listening the majority justices and attorneys, one wondered if it was actually the same Supreme Court that decided to take away women’s choice. Justices seemed hesitant to even mention insurrection, much less say…Donald, gasp. The Republican “states rights” comrades seemed unnerved that they were tasked with such a tough decision.
We listened to justices who seemed shocked that they were being asked to solved a major constitutional dilemma. Let’s be grateful this was not the same Supreme Court tasked with deciding Brown v. Board of Education of Topeka, based on the posture of the majority justices today, they would be overwhelmed by the political repercussions of a decision to end segregation.
Were the justices listening to any of the words from Donald before, during, or after January 6? Listening to the Supreme Court today, it didn’t seem that they did. Not one statement about Ginni Thomas, Justice Thomas’s wife, who helped plan and push Donald’s coup. No real emphasis on the incredible fact that a sitting President decided not to honor the peaceful transfer of power.
It was all quite white, if a Black person had done anything close to what Donald and his Republican coup conspirators had done, this would be over, no ballot questions to debate. Alas, I forgot…America’s not a racist country. At one point I thought the Founding Fathers might magically chime in to say, “What the hell is going on here? You’re going to let him get away with a coup? We wrote down instructions for this in the Constitution!”
But hey, I’m not a scholar, lawyer, or Supreme Court Justice. Listen to the landmark arguments for yourself.
“I’ve lived a hell of a long time, and I’ve gone through a lot of presidents, and this is the first one that is trying to destroy the constitution.” Norma Anderson, Colorado Republican
