America does not need to export racism because it’s prevalent globally. Perhaps the racial reckoning displayed worldwide when George Floyd was murdered by police was only a temporary “feeling” worthy of social media posts and protests instead of meaningful change.
Black people are voicing experiences of being treated in a discriminatory manner when trying to seek safety at Poland’s border. It’s not convenient to discuss racism during a crisis, hell, we can barely discuss racism at all, yet we cannot continually ignore that the lives of Black people are deemed less than.
War highlights the benevolence and bigotry that may reside within us. Let’s pull together to ensure that life is valued across the spectrum. One cannot demand freedom with one hand, while discriminating with the other.
