It is foolish to believe it was an “accident” that once again, an unarmed Black man was killed by police. They, the police, have muscle memory when it comes to fatally shooting Black people. They have procedural memory in drawing guns on Black people, as frequently their firearm is placed in our face. The repetition of racism, honed over centuries, used synonymously with motor skills that kill is not a fluke.
It is hard to believe it was an “accident” that again, an unarmed Black man was murdered by police.
That again, a young Black man’s life was stolen.
That again, a child will grow up without a father.
That again, a Black man’s choices will go on trial instead of his killer’s.
That again, a mother and father will bury a son.
That again, businesses are valued over Black life.
That again, they implement curfew instead of compassion.
That again, they are treated with objectivity, while Black people are treated as objects.
That again, Black people are expected to turn the other cheek while they turn a profit.
That again, Black people are expected to forgive, while they get to just live.
That again, they are automatically provided the benefit of the doubt, while Black people are automatically doubted.
That again, they demonize our diction to avoid conviction.
That again, Black life is treated as disposable.
That again, they ignore our tears, yet amplify their own fears.
That again, Black people are killed without apology due to police pathology.
Oops, they did it again, they killed a Black man…
Police killed Daunte Wright.
Police are not that innocent.
Whether police pick the wrong apartment, or pick the wrong weapon, they “accidentally” kill Black men, again and again.
