It appears that Trump has found yet another African American to point at from a podium and claim as his, and that guy is Byron Donalds.
According to the Philadelphia Inquirer, Donald Trump’s guy, Byron Donalds, said in Philadelphia at a Black voter turnout event, “You see, during Jim Crow, the Black family was together. During Jim Crow, more Black people were not just conservative. Black people have always been conservative-minded – but more Black people voted conservatively.”
Indeed, Black families were together during Jim Crow…Black families were together at funerals for family members that were lynched. Black families were together marching for equality. Black families were together as Black churches were being burned down, and yes, Black families were together risking their lives for the right to vote. A right Republicans are still trying to take away from Black people. In fact, Black families were always together due to legislated segregation making it illegal for Blacks and whites to go to the same school, live in the same neighborhood, marry each other, or even use the same bathroom.
Harkening back to Jim Crow, peddling gold sneakers, and bragging about being a convicted felon is Donald Trump’s outreach to Black voters.
