During a March from Selma to Montgomery. People were violently attacked as they crossed theĀ Edmund Pettus Bridge. This was only 55 years ago. The bridge was named for Edmund Pettus in 1940. Pettus was leader of a terrorist group in Alabama, a Confederate General, a two-term U.S. Senator, and a Grand Dragon of the Alabama Ku Klux Klan.
