Perhaps Republicans weren’t listening, paying attention, or didn’t think Donald meant any of what he has said or done for…ever.
Donald’s racism is documented. His misogyny has been recorded, and each day he being a selfish asshole is on full display. So, why are Republicans surprised that their standard bearer is not doing or saying what they prefer? Donald didn’t just happen, he was helped, embraced and encouraged by the very Republicans now surfing the airwaves demanding that he stop saying and doing exactly what they have tolerated and proffered.
Republicans had the chance to impeach Donald, yet they refused, twice. Republicans had the chance to defund his candidacy and they refused. Time and time again, Republicans are presented with the chance to refuse Donald, yet they don’t.
It is the height of hypocrisy for Nikki Haley to televise her distain for Donald’s words and actions. She made the decision to support an insurrectionist. When you say that you will vote for a person who actively tried to overthrow democracy, you don’t get to complain about what they say regarding the very democracy they tried to overthrow.
Donald says and does what he wants. He honors himself, nothing else. Remember, this guy doesn’t even honor his marriage vows, the Ten Commandments (despite being a Bible salesman), or The Constitution. So, why would he honor the Republican Party and why would the Party be surprised?
There is risk with any investment. Republicans must face the fact that they made a bad investment with Donald. Although they did get three Supreme Court justices and the overturning of Roe v. Wade out of it. Republicans need to take Donald, MAGA, and the culture constraints off their balance sheet, then they will be better positioned to reset and become a viable political party of actual policies.
Republicans: read the room, Americans will not vote for a political Party that wants to control our bodies, what we read, or who we love. Republicans, you can’t be mad at Donald for broadcasting what you embrace. Donald didn’t suddenly appear, the space for his presence in your Party has been nurtured, protected, and encouraged. Instead of looking at a camera to tell Donald to stop saying and doing awful things…look at mirror and tell yourself that.
