So damn proud of Quinta Brunson

40 years ago, a brilliant actress, Isabel Sanford, won an Emmy in the category, Comedy Lead Actress, for her role as Louise Jefferson in The Jefferson’s. Icon Norman Lear’s magnificent comedy creation spinoff from All in the Family.

It took 40 years to see a brilliant Black actress win the category again – it was Quinta Brunson. Writer and creator of Abbott Elementary. Making the moment even more amazing was Marla Gibbs, who portrayed Florence on The Jefferson’s, presenting the Emmy.

We are “moving on up,” perhaps slowly, but we are moving up. So damn proud of Quinta Brunson. We see the light in you.
