Many Americans were torn between watching the season premier of the Real Housewives of New York City or watching the Vice Presidential debate. After all, both shows took place in New York City and both shows centered around the daily lives of women. Yes, women voters will be a major force in this election.
There seemed to be an almost new character on the Vice Presidential debate show last night, as JD Vance tried to recast himself as a reasonable person by performing the role of a reasonable person. But, it’s difficult to just forget his forced childbirth stance, his “quip” about childless cat ladies, and his distain for freedom. Sure, JD is a skilled liar, Roy Cohn would be proud of his protégé’s, new protégé…a guy who lies without incoherent references to sharks.
That’s one reason why Tim Walz is such a breath of fresh air. This man couldn’t lie his way out of anything…and that’s awesome. He was nervous at the start of the debate (yes he’s human) his display of early nerves was honest. Walz was polite to a fault. It’s clear that Walz doesn’t connect with podiums, he connects with people. Walz doesn’t want to be all up in your business, he simply hopes your business is healthy.
No flies or fact checking were allowed at the Vice Presidential debate however, courtesy and kindness were welcome. Admittedly the Vice Presidential debate seemed almost normal…the candidates shook hands, smiled and even nodded in agreement with each other throughout much of the debate. The moderators asked questions and actually followed up on non-answers.
It did seem normal.
That is until…JD refused to admit, acknowledge, or even lean toward the fact that Donald lost the election, that January 6 was a violent attempt to overthrow democracy, that Donald refused the peaceful transfer of power.
Alas, this is not normal. The standard bearer of the Republican Party still refuses to say that he lost the election. Donald orchestrated a coup to stay in power. He tossed his Vice President to a guillotine erected by Trump supporters. A mob of Trump supporters that chanted “Hang Mike Pence!”
None of this is normal. Yet, Donald expects Americans to forget that January 6 was a violent coup. Republicans are stuck in the lie that January 6 was just a group of terrorists tourists on a tour to seize see the Capitol. They are stuck in the big lie Donald still spreads. Right now Republicans are creating pretext for not losing…again. They have new gangs of electors aiming to create certification chaos.
Walz has got America’s back, while JD is backing the big lie.
