Melissa Hortman, her husband Mark, and their dog, Gilbert, were murdered in their Minnesota home by a man targeting Democrats. We must continue to call this what it is: political assassination. The murders have been momentarily hidden by a tidal wave of other horrific headlines.
None of this is a normal course of action in a democracy. Murdering elected officials and their family members is not normal.
Whataboutism, template statements of “thoughts & prayers,” and pathetic posts, won’t erase the obvious build of lies, bigotry and brutality in the nation. This is not normal. The murders of Melissa, Mark, and Gilbert are a loud reverberation of the violent reality of retribution the current president foments.
We cannot allow political violence to become common place in America. Don’t forget the murder of Melissa, Mark, and Gilbert.
