Forgo Faux Friends

Friendship is Mutual Love and Mutual Matter

by Tami Warren

Friendship is mutual love and mutual matter

Being able to have a fallout or a fight, without fear of revenge, that your privacy will suddenly take flight

Friendship is peace

Friendship is playful

It is not pretty poison, pretentious, or all about place and staying in one’s predetermined station

Don’t accept those who offer isolation instead of invitation

Or those who use your confidences as their petty conversation

You deserve to be treasured, not tolerated

You are not a consolation prize, here only for them to criticize or ostracize

Friendship is choice

Friendship is connection

Friendship is comfort

With true fact based conversation

A friend is more than an acquaintance or association

A friend is more than a like or follow back

A friend is love and I got your back

Friendship is equality in spirit, not one taking priority in a two tiered fever dream, where what they need, is the only need that matters

Who you spend your time with on this planet reflects who is important to you, who truly matters

You don’t get time back, so don’t waste it on empty flattery, fake gestures, or fomented chatter

Spend your time with those who see you as an equal, not an option

Friendship currency is spiritually lifting, much more than dollars or cents

Friendship currency is an uninterrupted flow, a stream of acceptance where you are always valued

I have painfully learned, not to waste my light on those who won’t make space, for my rich brown face

On those who say one thing and do another

On those who shield themselves in the lyric of religion, pretending to be its songlike style

When in reality, they are not a sonnet or even an ode, they are masquerading as melodious

They are faux and foe, they are odious

I have learned not to accept being second tier, being someone they take from whenever they need

Greed not only appears in money, greed appears in, deed

I’ve learned not to give, and give, and give, when there is no give in return to receive

Friendship is constructed of bridges and two way streets – bright hills and valleys

Friendship is not lonely lanes of shadows or dark alleys

Choosing friendship means choosing truth, choosing light

Not being someone’s option or someone’s maybe – you are always on their guest list, not the waitlist, whilst they act shadey

I have learned to know my worth, even if someone else does not

It’s never too late to make new friends

But don’t wait too long, to forgo faux friends

Because friendship is mutual love and mutual matter

Sharing the dark times and the light, with your chosen sister, brother, or other, on this shared spiritual flight.
