Black Girl Magic and the Magistrate

The word magic is in the name, Black Girl Magic, yet there is no illusion about the impeccable imprint Black women continue to impart on America. From being a piece of property, to being a prosecutor, Black women have indeed made strides. And yes, we are grateful to not be chattel. We are forever appreciative of the progress made by our ancestors…we stand on their shoulders of sacrifice and strength in all we achieve.

National Black Girl Magic Day recognizes Black women and girls, by honoring our connection to each other and support of each other. The phrase, Black Girl Magic, was created by CaShawn Thompson in 2013. What started as a hashtag of hope, bloomed into a national holiday, celebrated on February 15. We are grateful for CaShawn Thompson’s dedication to civil rights and creation of “Black Girl Magic,” it shines an important spotlight on the strides and continued struggles for equality. Yes, the struggle for equality remains real for Black women, but not out of our reach.

Perhaps it was magic that willed the stars to align today, National Black Girl Magic Day, and the day Fani Willis testified in Georgia, or as television audiences refer to it, the day the lights, went on in Georgia. As it was a scene to behold, a Black woman unapologetically standing up against attacks to her credibility and intelligence. A Black woman standing firmly on her hard fought ground of financial independence, with arrows of accusations flying…from another Black woman.

At the direction of, Donald, a drama addicted former President with 91 felony counts and an insurrection under his belt, a gossip geared deflection campaign was engineered to pull focus off of his attempt to over throw democracy, subvert the Constitution, and deny the peaceful transfer of power; and put the focus on anything else…like the perceived faults and fear of, a Black woman. Operation: Gossip Girl, was in full effect in a Georgia court room, with the goal of removing Fani Willis (and the whole DA’s office) from Donald’s case.

Although it’s clear Ms. Fani has no interest in relying on a ‘man for her plan,’ ironically Donald’s plan is precisely that, to rely on a man, on being a man…a white man. In our continued fight for equality, one thing is sure, only a white man could orchestrate an insurrection, then become the standard bearer for the Republican Party, and then run to be the President of the same country he is still actively trying to destroy. That’s not magic, that’s white.

Abracadabra America, it’s been a magical day.
